WHY JOIN THE SSHCA?

South Seminole Heights Civic Association (SSHCA) memberships are comprised of both resident and business in our neighborhood and which represents the area between Florida Avenue to the east, Hillsborough River to the west, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the south, and Hillsborough Avenue to the north. Currently we have over 3,500 residents and represent about 1,300 homes and businesses in South Seminole Heights. As an active, involved member of the association, you have the opportunity to take part in the growth and development of your neighborhood. Your membership dues help fund community events, newsletters, and neighborhood improvement projects. Members are also encouraged to attend membership meetings to stay informed and weigh in on important issues that impact our community.General membership meetings are held at 6:30pm on the third Wednesday of every Quarter –  January, April, July and October. Meeting dates and times will be posted on our events page.

Here you can find information about upcoming events in the neighborhood, board and general meeting minutes, past issues of “The Banner” our neighborhood newsletter, and a great deal of information on the organization and area. You can also update your information and stay up to date by joining our mailing list.

“The Banner” South Seminole Heights quarterly newsletter. Published by volunteers “The Banner” is a great way to keep up with information going on in our neighborhood, learn about your SSHCA Board, local residents, businesses, and the like. If you are interested in contributing to the newsletter or advertising your business just let us know!

SSHCA Online Community. Please feel free to join us on Facebook by following the “South Seminole Heights Civic Association” Page. This page is run by the SSHCA and will promote information you need to know about Seminole Heights. You can also contribute to community discussion, help other residents, and post relevant information to our neighborhood by joining the “South Seminole Heights Community” group page on Facebook. Both of these are great resources to learn more about the area.

Community Events. The SSHCA is part of the larger Seminole Heights community and will take an active role in collaborating with other areas to present community events to our neighbors. From the OSHNA Home Tour to Taste of Seminole Heights there is something for everyone. In South Seminole Heights we will hosts porch parties, quarterly resident happy hours, events in Rivercrest Park, and more.

SSHCA Meetings. The SSCHA Board meets monthly to discuss relevant topics and discussions that impact our community. General meetings are held quarterly and all members and residents are welcome to attend to address any concerns, meet community leaders, and get involved with the SSHCA. At this time all meetings are held on Tuesdays at the Seminole Heights Library. Only paid members of the association have voting privileges at our meetings. Household memberships carry 2 votes, while all other memberships carry 1 vote.

Leadership and Volunteering. All members are encouraged to take an active role within the civic association. This is a great opportunity to share your skills for the betterment of our community and work with like-minded community advocates!
